PAUL NICKLEN

Polar Obsession – a wildlife photographic exhibition in support of SeaLegacy

Renowned National Geographic Photographer, and BBC Wildlife Photographer of the Year, exhibiting at the Drang Galleries in Salcombe, Devon, and Padstow, Cornwall, this summer.

Supporting the non profit organisation SeaLegacy and raising awareness and proceeds for the protection of our natural world, oceans, and wildlife, the Drang Gallery is delighted to present Paul Nicklen’s large-scale format photography for sale to the British public for the very first time, with his premier collection entitled Polar Obsession. Prices will range from £2,670 – £48,240 for exclusive editions, in addition his coffee table books will be available to view and buy. A significant percentage of the sales will be directed towards SeaLegacy, which focuses on protection of our oceans, climate change and plastic pollution affecting marine wildlife and the environment.

Polar Obsession showcases the magnificence of nature in some of the most wild regions of the world, which few have the privilege of experiencing first-hand. Nicklen’s award-winning images seek to inspire empathy and develop a greater understanding of the world’s interconnected ecosystems whilst also raising awareness of the dramatic impacts that devastating ocean plastics and global climate change are having on the planet’s species.

Paul Nicklen is an award-winning Canadian photographer, filmmaker, and marine biologist who has documented the beauty and the plight of our planet for over twenty years. As an assignment photographer for National Geographic magazine, Nicklen captures the imagination of a global audience. Paul is uniquely qualified to create his brand of documentary photography which informs and creates an emotional connection with wild subjects in extreme conditions. His work delivers audiences to an underwater realm witnessed by few. Paul’s sensitive and evocative imagery has garnered over 30 of the highest awards given to any photographer in his field, including the BBC Wildlife Photographer of the Year and the prestigious World Press Photo for Photojournalism.  He is equally recognized by the conservation community for his outspoken work, and has been awarded the Natural Resources Defence Council BioGems Visionary Award. Most recently, Nicklen was bestowed an honorary PhD at the University of Victoria, Canada, for the impact his photography has had on the public’s appreciation of climate change. In addition to being one of the world’s most acclaimed nature photographers, Nicklen is a sought-after speaker, a TED Talks legend, an author, and National Geographic Fellow. In the past two decades, Paul has collaborated with scientists, film-makers, conservationists and explorers to create awareness and inspire action for global issues of conservation. Through the SeaLegacy organisation and in partnership with the family-owned Drang galleries in Cornwall and Devon, Paul Nicklen is opening a fresh, progressive chapter in the story of ocean conservation. Through visual storytelling, he hopes to inspire people to stand up and add their voice to those calling for the protection of some of the planet’s most pristine places and save our greatest species.
“We are very proud to present this show to the British public this summer.  Paul’s work is truly inspiring and mesmerising, and brings awareness and appreciation of the threats to our greatest wildlife species, and of climate change, issues which are critical for our time and generation.  I hope everyone can make the effort to appreciate these fantastic images in the flesh, to become inspired and motivated to support the fight to protect our natural world.”  Justin Easton, Director of the Drang Galleries.
