After a hugely successful drive-in summer tour with Chef Tom Kerridge, the brains behind Pub in The Park, the UK’s biggest food and drink tour, have teamed up with Paul Ainsworth to bring Cornwall the ultimate drive-in movie experience.

Talking of the new venture Paul said: “I am buzzing to be bringing an event like this to Cornwall. It’s been a lot of fun creating this menu, taking some of these classic ‘at the movie’ dishes, adding bags of flavour, a little magic and lots of love. That’s the key to what we do.

“It has been a challenging start to the year and I know that Drive & Dine will bring some fun to those living or holidaying in Cornwall. Everyone loves a movie so come along and enjoy one of your favourites in an amazing (and safe) setting with some great food. We can’t wait to see you!”

Team Ainsworth’s flavour-packed and playful menu offers a nod to the typical American retro drive-in scene.  Enjoy, for example a souped up version of your cinema staple, Nachos, served here with an Oozy Cheddar Fondue made from local favourite Davidstow cheese, and a Jalapēno Salsa.  For something more substantial, try a Drive-In Dog – not just your regular hot dog, served in style with a Clotted Cream Bun, Fairground Onions, Pickles and Mustard Mayo.

An extensive drinks menu includes a selection of beers, lager and cider; white, rosé, red and sparkling wine; gin and tonics and passion fruit martinis.

And there are special picnic boxes for kids, as well as popcorn, milkshake and Kelly’s ice cream.

All food and drinks are available to pre-order when booking your Drive & Dine tickets, meaning you simply have to pull up, sit back and tuck in!

Rick Stein’s St Petroc’s Bistro raises £5,500 for local charity, St Petrocs.

Rick Stein and Jill Stein’s St Petroc’s Bistro in Padstow has raised £5,500 for Truro based charity, St Petrocs.

The money was raised through charity lunches with diners enjoying a special three course menu for £15.95 plus a £2 donation straight to St Petrocs.

Guests enjoyed classic dishes from Rick’s menus, including fish and shellfish soup, hake with spring onion mash and soy butter, and sticky toffee pudding with clotted cream, whilst raising money for a great cause.

St Petrocs is a local organisation working to end street homelessness in Cornwall by providing accommodation, support, advice, training and resettlement services to single homeless people. Earlier in the year, Rick Stein Head Chef Mark O’Hagan and General Manager, Julia Geall volunteered in their soup kitchen and got to see the impact the charity is having on so many lives.

Julia commented: “After visiting the charity earlier in the year, the whole bistro team were so excited to be helping St Petrocs homeless charity through our lunches. There is such a buzz around our charity lunches – it really feels like a community hub during the Cornish winter, with so many local residents and returning guests coming together in our cosy bistro for some great food and wine whilst helping a worthy cause. Our team would like to thank everyone who joined us and donated. We hope to welcome everyone again soon”.

Lois Wild from St Petrocs commented: “We wish to say a huge thank you to all at St Petroc’s Bistro and to the wider Stein team for their continued support of St Petrocs and for helping us in our mission to end street homelessness in Cornwall. It has meant so much to us at this time. Winter is an incredibly difficult time for people when they don’t have a place to call home and are facing a night on the streets. This support will help us going forward into the new year with our winter services and our winter night shelters.

The delicious charity lunches have raised a phenomenal amount of funds to help us deliver our work, but also has raised awareness amongst those who dined at the restaurant. As a consequence, there has been an increased visibility of our work and raised awareness of homelessness. We’ve been overwhelmed to see how people have been so generous in their support to people experiencing homelessness through these lunches.

A sincere thank you, from one St Petrocs to another!”
