CORNWALL AVIATION HERITAGE CENTRE

Go along and meet the team. Climb aboard, learn about, enjoy and experience aviation history, up close and personal!  CAHC celebrates and presents Britain’s aviation heritage from the age when it proudly led the World.

The Cornwall Aviation Heritage Centre is like no other aircraft museum. Set amongst the massive, looming silhouettes of a complex of ex-RAF HAS (Hardened Aircraft Shelter) buildings, the intention is to encourage you to get into as many amazing aircraft as possible, experience what is was like to fly these incredible fighters, bombers, trainers and in-flight refueling tankers – anyone and everyone, young or less–young, all-day, every day!

But they’ve only been there since 2015!  The Cornwall Aviation Heritage Centre was originally created to save a collection of historic aircraft that were facing an uncertain fate following the closure of an ambitious, but short-lived project to bring a substantial aviation museum to Cornwall.

A small group of local enthusiasts created a new non-profit organisation to take on responsibility for the endangered airframes, rent exciting ex-RAF premises at St Mawgan. Supported by a tireless team of volunteer helpers, they set up a new museum with a fresh approach – get the visitors involved, let them get ‘up close and personal’ with the aeroplanes, tell them the stories and the background of these exciting machines. The volunteer guides have become the heart and soul of the centre, many are ex-service personnel and love to advise and inform, explaining the history and exciting tales of the aircraft.

They have come a long way since opening their gates for the first time in Autumn 2015, many tens of thousands of visitors have experienced the unique opportunities available at CAHC and hundreds have been so impressed and delighted that they have let the World know with their Tripadvisor and Facebook reviews. And they never stand still. New aircraft are added each year and the café and shop continue to develop their ranges and offerings. Their education activity has expanded year on year and their new dedicated education charity came online in 2020, with ambitious plans for new buildings and collaborations on education and training for everything from paper-planes to aero-engines, from cabin crews to space sciences.

A unique experience and you are able to actually climb inside the cockpit of a jet fighter!
